"Prelude to an absence, black diaspora" is part of MUME's 2026 program on memory and the right to be forgotten. It presents the graphic work of the collective Subterraneos (MX), a sound performance by Citlali Gomez E. (MX/AT), and a talk by Magde Gill Bukasa (AT/CG).The art collective Subterraneos, through their woodcut series Black Diaspora, addresses the overlooked history of the 2% Afro-descendant population in Mexico. Citlali Gomez E. presents a sound piece with live piano featuring a Western melodic structure that intertwines, dissolves, and reappears among songs in original South American languages. These songs were recorded by Gomez during a research journey exploring the oral traditions of Latin American Indigenous music. Finally, in the keynote speech and talk "Afrikanisches Nation Branding - Macht Kunst PR fuer Schwarz?", Magde Gill Bukasa examines the influence of mass media and art on the Austrian public's perception and understanding of Blackness.
