MUME

MUME (February 15-22, 2024)
"FROM EXILE"
Andrea Torreblanca and Frida Robles (guest artists)

In response to the growing return of far-right governments, corservadurism and cultural cancellations, "MUME: From Exile" is the first edition of the anti-museum outside Europe and presents pieces produced collaboratively from commissioned texts by Andrea Torreblanca (MX) and Frida Robles (MX). "MUME: From Exile" is both a statement in favor of freedom of speech and a tribute to Latin American art practices that stood up to imperialism or authoritarian regimes. Torreblanca's "Museum. A Short Story" with illustrations by MUME, was inserted in a local newspaper in Brazil, to be later returned to circulation, just as Meireles did in the 1970s with his Insercoes em circuitos ideologicos. For Robles' "We Document", MUME pasted in the city of Buenos Aires a graphic document condemning current crimes against humanity, just as in the 1980s the Siluetazo action did against the disappearance and murder of civilians in Argentina. "MUME: From Exile" was also sent as mail art version, upon request.

"Museum. A short Story" by Andrea Torreblanca, February 15-18, Sao Paulo, Brazil (insertion in local newspapers in public space)
"We Document" by Frida Robles, February 19-22, Buenos Aires, Argentina (Paste up action in public space)
