INDIGO (October 3 - November 3 2026)
FORUM LIMBACH, Limbach
CONCLUSIUS, Guessing

For more than 6,000 years, indigo has connected plants, craftsmanship, and collective labor with trade and migration, but also with colonialism, enslavement, and exploitation. Indigo has no single origin. Across Africa, Asia, America and Europe societies developed their own methods of producing blue dye. Over generations and along trade routes, plants, textiles, techniques, patterns, and knowledge circulated across regions and cultures. With European expansion, indigo became a global colonial commodity, produced through forced labor and exploitation, but also met with resistance. By the end of the 19th century, chemical synthesis transformed the precious natural dye into an industrial mass product: the blue of elites also became the blue of workwear and jeans. For INDIGO, CRAFT (Manuela Picallo Gil and Oscar Cueto) translates this complex history into a painted narrative on cotton textile and paper, asking how knowledge is shared, who controls resources and production - and who profits from a global commodity. The exhibition was presented simultaneously at two exhibition venues: OPENING AT FORUM LIMBACH, Saturday, October 3, 2026, 6 - 9 pm, Am Wiesengrund 18, 7543 Limbach. MATINEE AT CONCLUSIUS, Featuring songs from the High Renaissance, performed by Bernadette and Franz Josef Posch. Sunday, October 4, 2026, 11 am Clusiusweg 2/1, 7540 Guessign.
